Diana agreed to run the event again this year and the IGT team was very happy to work with her again. This year was quite a complex process because of the new venue and the many themes.

She once again brought calm to a very busy event and even the promo and acting staff felt that they had never been so well looked after – which is a great reflection on IGT. I enjoy working with Diana because she has a no-nonsense attitude which means we can openly disagree with things and change plans and it is always taken constructively. Thanks DTConsulting for another job very well done.

Event Management: IGT@AGE 2014

It’s a freakin delorean!

So, in 2013 I agreed to manage the development of IGT’s stand for the 2013 Australian Gaming Expo, for a much valued client who lost his event manager a few weeks before the event planning started.

And then in 2014, I agreed to do it again. Go figure.

The stand again was an impressive size 24X36 metres, but this time in a new venue at Glebe Island – which brought many new challenges.

In 2014 the main themed game was Back to the Future and we took our overall stand theme cue from that. However, this year there were a number of games that were taking centre stage, so we actually had 4 different themed areas, as well as a 50’s style soda bar, a speaker theatre, 9 promo staff, 4 actors and several large bespoke props built for this expo.

IGT again had a substantial uplift in sales and extraordinary feedback from the industry.

Managing the event was again a busy few weeks as I started the process whilst still in the UK for a different matter. This was a complex event with many elements to coordinate as well as the usual speakers and presentations, food and beverage, promo and acting staff, new furniture, difficult setup in a new venue and rather restrictive forklift and delivery procedures that required me to run around the venue to clear deliveries with reluctant staff.

The swan effect was achieved – as the event ran incredibly smoothly on the surface and did not betray the amount of effort going on underneath.
